Volunteer guided walks take place every Monday at 11am. Join one of these walks and explore the wider estate of Godolphin. Walks alternate between different parts of Godolphin estate, including Godolphin Hill, Woods and along the River Hayle.

Please note: walks are subject to cancellation based on inclement weather conditions and are subject to volunteer availability.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

No booking needed but please call ahead to check if visiting specifically to join an estate walk.

Although children are welcome, this tour is recommended for adult audiences

Meeting at 10.45am at the welcome hut, for 11am walk.

Wear stout footwear and outdoor clothing.

Due to the terrain, this is not wheelchair accessible. This walk includes inclined terrain and stile crossings. The pace is slow and gentle, so fitness levels can be accommodated.

Are you ready for a minibeast adventure at Attingham this may half term?

Embark on a quest to find Croft's missing treasure, hidden within a grove of ancient trees at Croft Castle.

This May half-term, take part in our treasure hunting trail at Croft Castle. Brave adventurers can explore the grounds and gardens, looking out for clues and completing the challenges in order to find the lost Treasure Tree.

This trail will be running from Saturday 25 May to Sunday 2 June. Trails cost £3 per person and include an activity sheet, colouring pencils, and a prize.

Join the ranger team for a guided walk through the parkland to Croft Ambrey Iron Age hillfort, exploring the fascinating archaeology and wildlife with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.

On Saturday 22 June, come along and enjoy live music in the walled garden at Croft Castle.

Nothing says summer like watching beautiful butterflies fluttering around the gardens in the sunshine.

Explore the gardens and grounds this summer and discover what's been stirring amongst the ancient trees at Croft Castle.

The Treasure Tree - May half-term trail

Explore Wimpole Estate from the tree tops with The Big Tree Climbing Company.

Using ropes and harnesses, ascend into the canopy of one of Wimpole's largest trees, and enjoy an exhilarating adventure at new heights.

During your climb, you will learn how to safely reach the top of giant trees and take in the views of the parkland. You can hang out in the canopy or venture further out onto the branches if you're feeling brave, before returning safely to the ground.

This activity is suitable for ages 6 to 100, and each session is run for up to 8 people, creating a unique and intimate experience. We encourage the whole family to participate, or feel free to watch and photograph that special moment of your child climbing high into the canopy of a tree for the first time.

This event is suitable for anyone aged 6+

Please arrive at the Visitor Welcome Centre 20 minutes before your booked session, where you will be given directions to the tree climbing area. There is a 10 minute walk to the climbing area.

You'll be scaling a tree in a harness, so please dress appropriately for the activity. Trousers and sturdy shoes, as well as warm clothes if the weather is chilly are required.

Our climbing technique does require you to have a reasonable level of strength in your lower and upper body. The majority of work is done with your legs but participants are required to be active and healthy. We are able to help children who struggle but adults who are unable to carry out the technique can not be pulled up by our instructors.

Big Tree Climbing

Come out to play in May! From maypole merriment to musical melodies, there’s something new to explore at Hardwick Hall this half term!

The weather’s getting warmer and the flowers are out in bloom! Let the kids race around the May activity stations in the Stableyard whilst you enjoy a relaxing picnic.

Discover Elizabethan traditions with the Hardwick Maypole and embrace the themes of nature at the flower hopscotch and hoopla. Or try a more creative activity at the music station and storytelling throne to see what masterpieces you can create!

A spotter sheet will be available from Visitor Reception for the whole family to get involved in. Please check the events page for details on any workshops over the week.

Come along for some weird and wonderful woodland fun this May half term!

A spell has been cast over the woods at Anglesey Abbey, and some of the animals seem to have swapped some of their features! Embark on the weird woodland trail and on your way, you might encounter a frog with tarantula legs, or perhaps a spider with the body of a snake!

What will you find? Follow the trail and find all the letters to discover who cast the spell on the woodland at Anglesey Abbey...

Each trail pack contains a ZooLab activity booklet and certificate. Normal admission applies plus £3 per trail.

Please note we will also be holding live animal encounter shows (pre-booking required). Each £15 ticket will include a trail pack as well. Please see the separate event listing for more information.

May Half Term - Magnifying Trail

Delve into the Townend archive collection through these fascinating personal letters.

Explore snippets of Ben Browne’s life in the 1700’s, following his relocation from the Lake District to London, captured in letters sent to his father ‘Old Ben’ over a 20-year period.

From the excitement of moving to the fast-paced big city, to concerns about his unfashionable clothes and the cost of living, to missing his mother’s cooking, the notes written by ‘Young Ben’ describe the experiences of a young person moving away from home to make their own way in the world.

This rare series of letters offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives and social position of an ordinary farming family, the Brownes, who lived at Townend in Troutbeck Valley for more than 400 years. See the original volume of letters on display alongside the original belongings of the family inside this typical Lake District slate-and-stone farmhouse.

The exhibition is included with standard admission. Free bookable tours, available from 3pm daily, can be booked in advance and include the display.

Letters from London

Brought to Light contrasts the work of two of the Lake District’s great photographers: Herbert Bell, a chemist’s son from Ambleside, and Rupert Potter, father of the children’s author Beatrix Potter, in a never before seen way.

Scanned from historic prints at high resolution and shown at a large scale, the images give a glimpse into two different experiences of the same landscape: a wealthy Kensington family on holiday for whole summers, and a local lad producing souvenirs for the tourist trade and going on youthful expeditions with his friends.

Whilst the interiors of Wray have changed over time, many of the landscapes captured by Rupert have remained the same. Stand in the same spot as the Potter family on the lawn at Wray for your family photograph or explore the landscapes Rupert he admired.

The exhibition is on the ground floor of Wray Castle, which is free to enter.

Come celebrate National Children's Gardening Week at Dyffryn Gardens this May half term with an activity-filled trail that will teach you and your littles how to encourage wildlife in your own green spaces.

From 25 May - 2 June, come and complete the Dyffryn Gardens National Children's Gardening Week trail to learn all about how to look after green spaces, encourage local wildlife and have fun being a bit silly with the activities.

There's no need to book and no extra cost (normal admission applies), simply head to our Welcome Centre when you arrive and tell the friendly Welcome Team that you're here for the National Children's Gardening Week trail and they'll point you in the right direction.

Nature’s Tapestry | Botanical Embroidery at Hidcote Friday 29 March to Monday 30 September

Hidcote will host botanical and embroidery artist Olga Prinku in the exhibition hall this spring. Olga’s work combines dried and preserved flowers and other natural materials with tulle fabric, to create motifs inspired by nature.

Olga has been visiting Hidcote through the seasons to collect materials which she will use to create three artworks inspired by the garden. These will be displayed alongside her wider body of work. Her work uses materials like seed-heads that we ordinarily overlook to create intricate and unique artworks inspired by the changing of the seasons, and the raw beauty of the natural world.

The exhibition is located in the Entrance Hall of the house and is free to enjoy. Normal admission to the property applies.

Half-term trail: 'The Scotney Story Book' (25 May-2 June)

See the rooms on the ground floor of Bath Assembly Rooms and learn about the history of this building.

Join your host for a fully guided tour of the ground floor of the Assembly Rooms. You'll learn a little about the future plans and be taken through the Ball Room, Great Octagon, Tea Room and Card Room where we'll share some of the history behind the building.

Tours will last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Tours are aimed at adults, but are also suitable for interested older children. Please book a space for everyone in your party.

Join Flat Pack Forest Schools at the Rock Houses this May half term and have a go at some exciting outdoor activities.

History Detectives Trail

Experience a sound and visual art installation this spring

Colour, collage and sound are filling the aviary this spring. A group of young people from Hartcliffe have been working with artists Oshii and Jono Gilmurray to create a sound and visual art installation for Tyntesfield’s aviary. The group explored the history of the building and the bird life that would have inhabited it. They also delved into the significance of birds to Tyntesfield’s wider history and how the mining of seabird droppings (guano) for fertilizer made William Gibbs his fortune.

The final artwork not only explores these histories but encourages us to learn from them and think about how we can look after nature and our birdlife in future.

Echoes from the Aviary is a collaboration between the National Trust and Heart of BS13 and is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

Brought to you by the National Trust and Stoked Watersports, an opportunity to get out on the lake and maybe try something new.

At Stoked Watersports there is something for everyone. We run regular kayak, paddleboard and row boat hourly hire sessions throughout the day perfect for beginners.

For more experienced paddlers we have our SUP pick up and go service giving you the freedom to explore Lake Windermere at your own pace.

Our watersports base at Fell Foot on the southern tip of Lake Windermere is set within the National Trust’s Fell Foot park - a very special place which never fails to impress. It is quite simply the best place to experience watersports hires on Lake Windermere.

Last October, over 120,000 bulbs were planted in the arboretum by staff and volunteers. Between February and June, see them bloom into a vibrant display of colour at Knightshayes. With different flowers every month, there’s something new to explore every time you visit.
